AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER

Scene opens with a couple onstage URC in conversation. A MAN comes in and taps the WOMAN on the shoulder. She turns around quickly and he motions to her to come with him as he takes her hand and they cross DLC.
MAN #2
(As they cross. Putting his finger in front of his mouth as if to shush WOMAN) Let’s go!
WOMAN
(Shakes head.) We can’t.
MAN #2
Why not?
WOMAN Motions with her hand URC to the MAN #1 in conversation. MAN #2 shrugs his shoulders.
MAN #2
Almost forgetting about WOMAN’s response.) Let’s go! (Holding WOMAN’s hand.)
WOMAN
We can’t.
MAN #2
Why not?
WOMAN motions with her head in MAN #1’s direction. MAN #2 is now facing WOMAN, holds her downstage hand in his and entwine them.
MAN #2
(Sweetly.) Let’s go. (WOMAN shakes her head.) Let’s go!
WOMAN
(Sweetly.) We can’t. (She hangs her head as if to say she is sorry)
MAN #2
(Lifts her head up with his finger). Why not? (The two lean in to kiss each other but do not get too close. At this time MAN #1 is walking DR, as if he is still in deep conversation.) Let’s go! (Pulling WOMAN UL)
WOMAN
(Giggling) We can’t!
MAN #2
(Pulling WOMAN, they cross UR) Let’s go!
WOMAN
We can’t!
MAN #2
(Looking up at the balcony) Aha! (Begging) Let’s go!
WOMAN
(Shaking head) We can’t.
MAN #2
(Runs up stairs hurriedly to balcony) Let’s go. Let’s go. Let’s go. (Reaching balcony) Let’s go. (Extending his arm and hand down to WOMAN)
(MAN #1 crosses DL, still pantomiming conversation. WOMAN backs up to RC while looking up at MAN #2 and turns around to face DL, the direction of MAN #1, but does not look directly at him)
Psst. Let’s go!
WOMAN
We can’t!
MAN #1
(turning around to face WOMAN) Let’s go. (Reaches hand out to her).
MAN #2
Let’s go! (Reaches hand out to WOMAN)
WOMAN
(Facing audience) Why not!
