LET’S MAKE A WAGER

LET’S MAKE A WAGER

A One-Minute Play by Linnea Rose
JOE and SAM are sitting together on a train. The two are sitting close to the DS edge of the stage.
JOE
Let’s play a game. No, let’s make a wager: how many people do you think will almost sit down in that dirty seat?
SAM
By the end of the ride?
JOE
Yeah.
SAM
Ooo nice one. Well that’s two already so I’m going to say 10-15.
JOE
Too broad a range.
SAM
Okay, then. 12. You?
JOE
13.
SAM
Ooo.
JOE
I know. I’m daring.
SAM
Lose buys Wings Over?
JOE

Oh, you are on!

SAM

Okay so the count is up to 4 now. Do parents with children count?

JOE
Children are half-a-point.
SAM
Nice.
JOE
Okay so now 8…and we’re only at Kenmore.
SAM
(Laughing) That one just looked up thinking that the train was bleeding fruit punch.
JOE
…Nine.
SAM
…Ten
JOE
…Eleven…
The suspense builds. A PASSENGER sits down in the seat.
JOE AND SAM
Ahh nooo! (No one wins.)
PASSENGER
What?
JOE AND SAM
(To eachother) You’re buying!
